As music director and conductor of
the Piedmont Wind Symphony since
2015, Matthew Troy has pushed boundaries through a number of film and music
projects, Black History concerts, and
unexpected partnerships. In April 2018
Troy crafted a program called “
Music Without Borders,” which focused
on the ongoing refugee crisis both locally and abroad. This concert included
music and partnerships for many countries affected by these issues, including a partnership with World Relief and
local interfaith groups. Troy has commissioned new works, performed
countless clinics supporting local music teachers, and created programs and
received funding for outreach into the
local prison systems. The 2017–18 season saw the creation of the “Female Fanfare Project” with the Piedmont Wind
Symphony, which included the important
contribution of female composers. Troy
also serves as education conductor with
the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, where
he conducts the Discovery Family Series,
educational concerts, Carnegie Hall’s
Link Up concerts, and made his subscription series debut with the Oklahoma
City Philharmonic.
Guitarist Ana Vidovic’s 2017–18 season included recitals in Germany (
Baden-Baden), Vienna (Jeunesse Musicale),
Hong Kong, Peoria (IL), Chicago, Washington (DC—Marlowe Guitar Series),
Los Angeles, and Jacksonville (FL), and
a concerto engagement with the Idaho
Falls Symphony, in addition to a tour to
Japan where she performs almost annually. Her 2018–19 season began with an
appearance at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge followed by concertos with
Washington’s (DC) Apollo Orchestra and
Orchestra Iowa. Further recitals take place
in Boston, Washington (DC—Dumbarton
Oaks), Austin, Cleveland, San Francisco,
and the Hawaiian Islands, in addition to
London, Baden-Baden, and Japan.
Celil Refik Kaya is the third recipient
of the Early-Career Musicians fellowship
at Harvard’s Dumbarton Oaks where he
spent the 2017–18 season in Washington,
DC, composing and performing as a part
of his fellowship. Mr. Kaya performed
concerts at LA Guitar California and
Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Wilmington Guitar Society. He has published his
own compositions such as Petite Waltz,
Prelude No. 1, Suite of the Witches, and
Baião, Sonata No. 1 with Les Productions
D’Oz. Mr. Kaya’s first Naxos recording
of works by Jorge Morel was released in
2016. Naxos releases its second recording of the artist in spring 2018, on which
he plays works by Carlo Domeniconi.
Mr. Kaya’s third album, Agustin Barrios
Mangore Vol. 4, was released in summer
2018 and Mr. Kaya is invited to record
Joaquin Rodrigo in 2019. His 2018–19
recital engagements are presented by the
St. Louis and Minnesota guitar societies.
